Canine Influenza
Hi everyone,
I heard from Penn Vet today that there has been an uptick in Canine Flu in our area. They advise that it would be a good idea to consider getting the Flu vaccine series for dogs at risk of exposure. This would include dogs who leave home or who have owners who see other dogs and might bring the flu virus back home. The vaccine series consists of 2 shots initially and then annually going forward. The first shot is given and is followed up by a 2nd shot 3 weeks later. Protection is achieved 1-2 weeks after the 2nd shot. As with the human flu vaccine, dogs can still get the flu but it won't be as severe as if they hadn't had the vaccine. Let me know if you'd like to set up a visit!
